Family Life Society (FLS) is a registered charity set up in 1985 and a member of the National Council of Social Services (NCSS). We strengthen families, marriages and uphold the dignity of life. Our services are:

1. Marital and Family Therapy;
2. Children & Adolescent Therapy Services;
3. Pregnancy Crisis & Support journeying with girls/women with unplanned pregnancies and education programmes for teens and parents.

We are in three locations – 2 Highland Road, Agape Village in Toa Payoh and 55 Waterloo Street.

Private Counsellor - Cecilia Yee

Cecilia holds a Master of Counselling (Advanced) awarded by Swinburne University of Technology. She believes that individuals exist in systems which support, build or sometimes hurt – which is where she hopes to provide support and help in. Her warm and affable nature allows the therapeutic relationship with her clients to form swiftly for therapy to begin.

Her approach is integrative; largely depending on the personality of her clients and nature of their situations. She works on helping and empowering her clients in areas where they can effect personal change in order to influence or alter their situations.

Cecilia works with couples, families and individuals of all ages. She has experience working with a range of issues including but not limited to:

As an adoptive parent, she has been giving talks, facilitating support groups and journeying with other adoptive families since 2008. She also has self-published a book titled “We Just Want You to Know”, to facilitate adoption disclosure and involved in several publications such as “Our Very Own” and “Our Very Own 2” – on the same topic. Since 2013 she has journeyed with birth families as well.

As systemic therapists/counsellors, we are less likely to see the problems as residing with the person, and instead, we view these problems in the context of and embedded within one's relationships.

We will help you to make sense of the problem, issue, and challenges, in a way that will allow you to develop strategies for coping or dealing with these problems.

A “Pay As You Wish" Service Model

We believe that counselling should be a service that's available to everyone. Our service model is the unique "pay as you wish", which ensures we leave no one out.

As a boutique family therapy and development centre, we cater to all races, religions, and socio-economic groups.

Especially for those who might find themselves in financially sticky situations while needing a listening ear.

There are also those who might have been considering attending counselling sessions for some time, but have been dissuaded by the price associated with it.

Our "pay as you wish" model, serves to bridge that gap - to enable us to reach those who might need our help, or a listening ear most.

Marriage Unique for a Reason

Marriage: Unique for a Reason is an initiative of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Marriage: Unique for a Reason offers resources to assist with the education and catechesis of Catholics on why marriage is unique and why it should be promoted and protected as the union of one man and one woman. Each of the videos in this initiative, with its companion written material, is intended to be used by a priest, deacon, catechist, or teacher.

While the materials are primarily intended for a Catholic audience, it is hoped that Marriage: Unique for a Reason can be of assistance to all people of good will who seek to understand the truth and beauty of marriage. The truth about marriage is accessible to everyone because it is grounded in the nature of the human person. Promoting and protecting marriage witnesses to the dignity of every person and serves the common good.

Encounter God through the spirit of prayer and the scripture by reflecting and praying the Word of God daily. The purpose is to bring you to prayer, and to a deeper union with the Lord on the level of the heart.
Daily reflections when archived will lead many to accumulate all the reflections of the week and pray in one sitting. This will compromise your capacity to enter deeply into the Word of God, as the tendency is to read for knowledge rather than a prayerful reading of the Word for the purpose of developing a personal and affective relationship with the Lord.
It is more important to pray deeply, not read widely. The current reflections of the day would be more than sufficient for anyone who wants to pray deeply and be led into an intimacy with the Lord.

FES adheres to the belief that the family is the fundamental school of human values and social virtues. It is where parents play the role of primary educators, forming children in truth through words and good example. It is in the family where children learn to dialogue, understand and respect other people’s points of view. In the family, children first learn to yield their opinion when truth demands it; thus, learning how to be helpful and caring for others.

The family is the place where children are gradually taught to exercise and develop their freedom with personal responsibility. Consequently, this approach brings stability and solidarity to families living in society. Ultimately, it contributes to making society more cohesive.

FES adopts the slogan “Building Loving & Lasting Families”. Its philosophy is best summarized in the following statements:

“Strong families are based on solid character formation of individuals.”
“The family is the original cell of social life and family life is an initiation into life in society.”
“A healthy robust family is where members have a strong sense of social responsibility in helping their peers strengthen family ties.”

Our Objectives

FES has seven broad objectives:

To promote family values and key components of the family unit such as the harmonious development of the relationship between spouses and among parents and children.
To foster and promote integral and wholesome family life through educational means such as seminars, conferences, courses and workshops.
To provide education and formation on the principles, techniques and practices on effective development and upbringing of children.
To conduct research, surveys and similar programmes with the aim of studying and analyzing the varied and distinct aspects and dimensions of family life, child upbringing and education in Singapore and in other countries.
To promote the balanced human and personal development of the youth through supplementary courses and activities that help families promote initiatives for the sound upbringing of children.
To promote and facilitate inter-country exchange of observation groups and aid professionals undertaking similar research and development programmes.
To publish materials on the sciences related to child upbringing and making these materials available to parents, educators and other groups.
